Yoga Strength Trilogy

3-Part Online Series!!

Why is building strength important? As we age, we naturally lose lean muscle mass and bone density. Strength training not only helps to preserve this, but it also helps reduce our risk of osteoporosis and also helps to prevent injuries as we strengthen the muscles that help stabilize the joints. Strength training has also been shown to have a positive effect on our mental health, including reductions in anxiety, depression, and pain intensity and helps improve sleep. Building strength in our body leads to a stronger mind, more confidence and more resilience.

The poses we practice in yoga involve the entire body as opposed to isolating specific muscles. We recruit stabilizers and small twitch muscles and in many poses, work multiple muscles at one time. For example, in Chaturanga Dandasana, although we might feel it primarily in the upper body, the abs, back, inner thighs and even the muscles in the feet are working. Yoga practice can be a great form of functional strength training. We build strength in the whole body so that it can perform daily activities in the real world, not just lifting a certain amount of weight.

This Yoga Strength Trilogy has been created to help build strength and control in your body so that you can step on to your yoga mat feeling empowered and also advance in this world confidently. Each class will focus on a different body part as we explore different ways to challenge ourselves and improve the way we move.
