Summer is great. We all love it. Warm sunshine, late nights, lazy days by the pool sipping margaritas and munching on snacks…I’m craving a sangria right now as I write this post. But let’s face it. All that extra “laziness” and indulgence can wreak havoc on our health. As we put away the flowy maxi dresses and loose-fitting shorts and t-shirts, we wonder why we can’t fit back into our skinny jeans. Kids are back in school and Fall has officially arrived so if you haven’t done so already, don’t you think it’s time to fall back into your routine? And by routine, I mean a healthy one, of course. If your routine before the summer rolled around wasn’t a healthy one, now is as perfect a time as any to create NEW habits that will foster a healthy, happy lifestyle routine and help get you into those skinny jeans after all. But on a more serious note…it’s not about fitting into anything…it’s about feeling good about yourself on the inside and out.

Routine and discipline are paramount to any healthy lifestyle. As consistent and dedicated as I try to be to my clean eating habits, I have to admit that summers make it hard. Who can resist those yummy light snacks by the pool and going for patio drinks in the middle of a hot summer day? Oh and did I mention how much I LOVE sangria? I try not to be too hard on myself and remember the importance of balance. It’s what I preach to my clients all the time. The 80/20 rule. As long as you’re being good and sticking to your routine 80% of the time, it’s okay to be less rigid and have a little fun 20% of the time. The problem is that this 80/20 rule is more like 20/80 during the months of July and August. It’s time to get back on track.
